All About Ian!
British-born Ian Gibb's passion for photography is depicted in his superbly vivid and diverse portfolio of travel and lifestyle imagery.
From the Man Himself
Left school and completed an Engineering Apprenticeship - Specialising in Optical Electronics - This started my fascination with lenses and prisms.
Boring but true! Deciding that a life working in a factory was not quite going to fulfil my aspirations I started work with Philip Morris and learnt to formalise my sales ability
Ended up as Senior Sales trainer with them, left and joined an advertising agency.
After 3 years on the agency side I went to client side with Jardine Matheson and was running Jaguar & Aston Martin retailers in the UK.
Somehow after 10 years I ended up working with a global travel management company and from here was headhunted into a financial institution from which I decided after 3 years of mind numbing boredom to retire and live my dream.
Hence, Ian F Gibb Photography!

Ian F. Gibb Trivia
My favorite destinations to shoot in are … The Maldives - The colours of the ocean and the unbelievable beauty in the sunsets are a vision to behold - It is a challenge balancing stunning interiors with the bright glare of the exterior but when everything comes together it makes all the effort worthwhile. Paris / Cannes / Milan - How can someone from France or Italy sling on a pair of jeans - a shirt or blouse and a pair of shoes and look a billion dollars ? Love the style and sophistication of these continental Europeans
My most embarrassing moment during a shoot was… realising I had just put my life at great risk to get a photograph … and then almost passing out but not before I had brought up breakfast! The situation may sound strange but imagine this. I was standing on top (straddling really) of a huge piece of engineering machinery looking down into a spinning chuck that was going 30,000 rpm - this was going to be a really cool picture! The photograph was to be of a piece of drill pipe that gets shunted into the spinning chuck. However, nobody told me that this results in about 300 tones of pressure on the machine and when this happened (you guessed it), I immediately lost my balance and quickly (very quickly I might add) learned that the machinery I was standing on was also quite oily and greasy which made me look like a bad dancer on a late Saturday night - and I nearly slipped into the spinning mass. Fortunately, I gained my balance, climbed off the machine, said goodbye to breakfast and learned my lesson.
The best things about photographing people is … that often with the right questioning and probing, one can learn so much and see so much beyond the exterior - Translating that into the camera and capturing someones emotions are magical
One person I would love or loved to have photographed … Apart from my late Father, I wish I could have been with Neil Armstrong on the moon! Just imagine the royalties… !!!
Places or People I yearn to photograph … I would like to tour Chile - The Pacific coastline is about 4000 miles long and because the ribbon of land stretches from North to South you can experience all four seasons in a month so I'm told. Bono from the rock band U2 - Without the sunglasses! Ayrton Senna and James Hunt after a big night out!
